Wine Pairings – How to Pair Wine with Seafood
Seafood is one of the greatest foods ever. Wine is one of the greatest beverages ever. Putting the two together can create a blend of flavors and sensations that one has never felt before. If you have never had the pleasure of eating seafood while drinking a delicious wine then you must read on to learn more about it. You can even hold a wine tasting using seafood as the main course.

One of the most important aspects of pairing seafood and wine is quality. When you have quality seafood you must have quality wine to accompany it. It is a waste to have a premium level of crab with a three dollar box of wine. Quality always matches with quality.
There are a few basic rules for pairing seafood with wines. White wines are generally the right choice for pairing seafood with wine. The problem is in choosing the correct wine for the job. You will be extremely disappointed if you pair a dry white wine when a heavier, more intense wine is needed to complement the food.

Fried fish generally pairs well with sparkling wines. Many people would not think to pair a white wine with their Friday fish fry, but if you use sparkling wine you may be pleasantly surprised. The bubbles in the wine will cut through the density of the friend food. Skip the beer this Friday and use Champagne.

Sauvignon Blanc , Torrontes from Argentina, and Pinot Grigio go well with light, white fish. Examples of these types of fish include walleye, flounder, halibut, oysters, shrimp, mussels, and raw clams. These are probably my favorite wines to pair with seafood.

Another white wine option is Chardonnay. Chardonnay pairs well with crab, striped bass, lobster, and raw oysters.

Another delightful white to pair with seafood is Riesling. Riesling is a fuller white wine, which has a bit of sweetness. Riesling will pair well with Asian seafood.

Seafood and wine are two delicious entities that can learn to live together in harmony. You just have to learn to make them sing together. Until next time, Bon Appetit and Salud!
